Head Lice Facts
- Head lice are a nuisance. When untreated, 1 louse can leave 5-10 nits behind. Picking those nits is essential in preventing an epidemic nightmare!!!
- Lice tend to gravitate to warm areas: around the base of the neck and behind the ears.
- Lice crawl very quickly but do not fly.
- Nits that are within ½ inch of the scalp may hatch later.
- Nits do not comb or brush out easily.
- Head lice are not a sign of uncleanliness. Head lice love clean hair.
Treatment Info
- Lice treatments should only be used on persons who have lice.
- Treatment kills lice but not all of the nits.
- Lice may not die immediately. Chemical treatments work for 7-10 days after use.
- You will not get al the nits out in one picking. After treatment this needs to be a daily occurance.
- For 7-10 days do not use hair dryers, hair conditioners, vinegar rinses and avoid chlorinated swimming pools.
- Make head lice checks a weekly part of your child's hygiene routine.
